Why this exists
Root & Route is a field guide for people at the actual beginning of an IT or security career — not the version of "beginner" that still assumes you know what a subnet is.
It's written by a Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer who works in identity management, endpoint management, networking, and cloud infrastructure day to day, and who still remembers exactly which concepts didn't click the first, second, or fifth time they were explained.
Every post here follows one rule: if a beginner has to already know five other things to understand this explanation, the explanation has failed — not the beginner. That means fewer acronyms dropped without translation, more real analogies, and a lot less pretending that any of this was obvious from the start.
Posts are graded by trail difficulty rather than "beginner / intermediate / advanced," because those labels mean different things to different people. Basecamp assumes nothing. Trailhead assumes you've read a few Basecamp posts. Ridge starts connecting ideas across topics. Summit is where the practitioner-level detail lives.
There's no theme here of "become a hacker in 30 days" or "six figures in tech by Friday." Getting into IT and security is a genuinely long trail. This site is just trying to make the first few miles less confusing.
